A simple, one-day conversion

Miami Vice set style trends during its height in the ‘80s. It blended flamingos, women in bikinis, cops in Ferraris and “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous.” A generation of Yuppie-wanna-be’s wore pastel shirts with baggy slacks, and they dreamed of cruising town in a Ferrari Daytona Spyder, Sonny Crocket’s black convertible. Today’s up-and-coming seem to be targeting Mazda’s hot Miata, which has just been nominated by Blue Ray GT Engineering to be the next popular donor car.

In an industry that measures most “projects” in months, it is refreshing to discover a new kit that the average person can use to transform their car in just one day. The new Miami Roadster is technically a half rebody that gives the Miata a completely new look.

The transformation focuses on replacing the front end, from the doors forward. The doors and rear body pieces remain stock, with the exception of the rear bumper cover. The Miami Roadster package is designed to be a direct replacement of factory pieces, and it does not require bodywork, cutting or welding. This keeps both the process simple and the transformation time short. By just unbolting pieces, the owner can later return the car to its stock configuration with ease.

The kit includes a one-piece nose with integral turn signals and headlights. The hood is replaced, along with the rear bumper cover. Two tail light inserts help give the car a classic European look with their circular lamps. Four chrome bumpers give the car a flashy retro look. The fellows that build the Monster Miata, the fiery 5.0L-powered ‘90s Cobra, have looked the car over and noted the additional engine clearance gained by the Blue Ray hood. The Monster Miata people were excited at the power possibilities that this space could be used for. So, the transformation does not have to be limited to the stock four banger. Imagine the hot Miami Vice styling matched with a modified 5.0L sporting a host of GT40 goodies from SVO! With a beefed-up suspension and sticky meats, this could be a new threat to the Cobras, all for less money than it takes to build most Cobras. Hmmm.

The Miami Roadster fills the void between time-consuming kit cars and the myriad of look-alike aero kits creating a distinct car available in a one-day project form.
